张亚勤以大部分产品属盗版为由否认在中国垄断 http://www.donews.com/Content/200808/f82b08de-5353-4f25-9af0-d928c949bc0d.shtm Photosynth tricksI photosynthed lots of famous constructions recently: China National Stadium, China National Indoor Stadium, China National Aquatic Center, China Olympics Central Domain. Here are some of my feelings when using Photosynth. 1. Start with small objects. Photosynth uses lots of texture matching. To photosynth an object well, you need to take lots of photos with overlapped parts. Also in order to achieve zoom-in and zoom-out effect, you need more close-up or panoramic shots. If there is gap, you may not generate complete photosynth. For a construction object like National Stadium, I think 1,000 shots may be OK (I shot around 150 and it seems still not enough).
2. Find fast connection. The servers are currently in US. Even if you use 1M connection, it takes much time.
3. Use a powerful machine. Photosynth will do lots of computations on client side. On my notebook with Centrino Duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM, photosynthing around 60 photos take several hours and the CPU is working like crazy. However, photosything the same photos on a desktop with Core2 Duo 2.33GHz, 4GB RAM takes around 15 minutes. http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=startemplar

As China has a vast territory with people speaking numerous dialects, hundreds of traditional operas have been derived. However, Peking Opera is the “National” opera (sometimes it is called Chinese opera). It arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century.
There are four main types of performers: a) Sheng (生) is the main male role. b) Dan (旦) refers to any female role. c) Jing (净) is a painted face male role. The painting represents the personality traits of the character. d) Chou (丑) is a male clown role.
<苏三起解> (Sūsān qǐ jiè) / Su-San to Set Out for a Retrial is one of the most famous Peking Operas.
Susan, a prostitute, decided not to do the business since her lover, Wang Jinlong, left. However, afterwards, she was sold to a rich man, Shen, as the second wife, Shen’s first wife poisoned Shen with the help of her lover, and then put false accusations on Susan, the judges received the bribery and then sentences Susan to death. On the way to send Susan for the senior trial, Susan told the officer her poor situation and story, the officer consoled her. http://www.bychinese.com/learn/peking-opera.html

17. Silk Road: The Silk Road, well known far and near, existed more than 2,000 years ago, when trade caravans of China set out from Chang'an (today's Xi'an of Shaanxi Province) with expensive silk, crossed the Hexi Corridor and entered the European continent. Hence, the Silk Road became an important passage for economic and cultural exchanges between China and Western countries. A prestigious Chinese sea voyager, Zheng He (Chinese Columbus?), traveled through the "Maritime Silk Route" 600 years ago. At its peak, Zheng He's fleet included 30,000 men and 70 ships. He brought back to China many trophies and envoys from more than 30 kingdoms, including a king of Ceylon. Life magazine ranked Zheng He the 14th most important person of the last millennium. Also there is saying that his mission was searching for the grandson of Ming dynasty's creator, who disappeared after Yongle, his uncle, usurped his throne. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road 17. Compass is one of four great inventions in ancient China.
18. There is a famous book shown on Zheng He’s ship: Bencao Gangmu/Compendium of Materia Medica, is Chinese materia medica work written by Li Shizhen in Ming Dynasty. The Bencao Gangmu is regarded as the most complete and comprehensive medical book ever written in the history of traditional Chinese medicine. It lists all the plants, animals, minerals, and other objects that were believed to have medicinal properties.
19. Kunqu is an ancient and traditional art form that has entered the world list of intangible cultural heritage. 20. Graceful fairies float towards the ground and cluster around the Olympic rings. There is Flying Apsaras legend in Dunhuang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYl-xLwFiOs
21. Tang dynasty is about 1,500 years away. It is called Magnificent Tang or Flourishing Tang. It is described as peaceful and powerful. There is also Tang-style costumes. The beautiful people in Tang dynasty were usually fat people. 22. Kite: The kite was first invented and popularized approximately 2,800 years ago in China, where materials ideal for kite building were readily available: silk fabric for sail material, fine, high-tensile-strength silk for flying line, and resilient bamboo for a strong, lightweight framework.
23. Taijiquan/Tai chi chuan is the most representative forms of shadow boxing in Chinese martial arts. Tai chi is typically practiced for a variety of reasons: its soft martial techniques, demonstration competitions, health and longevity. The key concept of Taiji is unity of man and nature, which is traditional philosophical concept in Chinese martial arts.
The Eight Diagrams of Taiji symbolize eight natural phenomena that bring out changes in all things on earth and include heaven, earth, thunder, wind, water, fire, mountain and lake.
24. The last 5 dynasties, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing have their own cultural relics: namely Tang Shi Poem, Song Ci Poem, Yuan Drama, Ming and Qing Literature/Novel. "The torrent dropping three thousand feet/Straight down to the valley floor/I think it must be the Milky Way/Spilling to the earth from the heavens." The poetic flavor of the famous lines by Li Bai, a poet during the Tang Dynasty, is expressed in a performance.
25. It is China’s dream to explore extraterrestrial space. Yang Liwei is the first man sent into space by the space program of China, and his mission, Shenzhou 5, made China the third country to independently send people into space. Scientist targets 2024 for China's first Moon Walk. 26. The way that Gymnast Li Ning lights the flame cauldron reminds me of an ancient Chinese legend: “Giant Kuafu Chases the Sun”, where Li Ning is Kuafu and Cauldron is the Sun. http://petrimoulx.pbwiki.com/f/Chapter1literatureconnections.pdf |
